Radio A True Love

Mike Bills entered the radio industry by way of extremely unlikely circumstances. While working as a courtesy clerk at a Mt Pleasant, SC grocery store at age 19, he bumped into veteran on-air announcer Mitch Zatto, who at the time was part of a highly successful local morning show at WSSX. It was extremely unlikely for a variety of reasons, one being that I had never seen Mitch before. The other reason being that no time previous to meeting Mitch did I have any aspirations to get into the radio industry. In the months before I met Mitch, I had heard Mitch’s production and imaging on the air at various stations in Charleston, which further my peaked my interest. Mitch soon took Mike under his wing and I ended up interning at various stations with him like WSSP 94.3 FM, WSUY 96.9 FM, and WYBB, 98.1 FM. During a 3 year period from 1994-1997, Mike learned all the aspects of the radio business. Promotion. Programming. Personalities. And the rest is as they say "history".
